Who:   Legendary virtuoso pianist, Byron Janis is attending The Voice Foundation’s Voices of Summer Gala in Philadelphia on June 1, 2012 to receive The V.E.R.A. Award for his contribution to the field of voice communication.  The program for the evening will include a special performance by Mezzo-soprano, Metropolitan Opera Star and Recording Artist, Frederica Von Stade, a presentation of The Sacker Award honoring Academy Award Nominated Actor and Singer, Danny Aiello, and a special appearance by Communication Coach, Michael Sheehan.
What:  The annual Voices of Summer Gala is one of The Voice Foundation’s premiere events.  The sell- out black tie fundraiser is an event where the voice care community comes together to recognize winners of these prestigious awards.  Past V.E.R.A. (Voice Education Research Award) Award Recipients have included Dame Julie Andrews, Walter Cronkite, and Dan Rather to name a few.  The Voice Foundation’s mission is to provide educational outreach on voice care and to administer funding for scientific research grants specializing in vocal issues. The Voice Foundation is the nation's oldest nonprofit organization dedicated to the care of the human voice.
More:  Earlier this month, legendary Artist, Maesto Janis, was honored at Lincoln Center’s Walter Reade Theater with a Lifetime Achievement Award presented by Yamaha Music and Wellness Institute.  The evening included a presentation of an Official Letter of Honor from Mayor Michael Bloomberg and featured numerous special appearances and performances.  The V.E.R.A. Award will be Maestro Janis’ second award out of four he is scheduled to receive this year.
